HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS

The first and most important part of homework is to read aloud to your child for fifteen to twenty minutes everyday. This builds literacy skills. Make this a special, cozy, loving and rewarding time spent together. While you're reading move your finger along the bottom of the words you read and ask your child questions about the story and pictures. The goal is to foster in your child a love of reading. While you're doing that you will also increase comprehension, vocabulary, and listening skills. Write down the title of the books on the homework form each week.

The second part of the homework is practicing skills learned at school (i.e., math, reading, fine motor, writing, or religion). Your child will need your help to do the homework. Please provide a box with pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue for your child at home. Of course, give your child a lot of compliments and be very positive and encouraging while doing homework together. The homework packet will be sent home on Monday. Please return it the following Monday via your child's folder. The purpose of the homework is to develop a positive attitude and habit about doing homework and to practice the skills taught in school.
