Kindergarten
(KA): Mrs. Kelley Griffith
I have
a BA in History & Politics & Government from UPS and
a Master of Arts in Teaching from UPS.
I started
my teaching career with a rewarding student-teaching experience
in a first grade classroom. My fist year of teaching was spent
with a wonderful group of second graders. However, my first
love is kindergarten, which I have taught since 1994. For
those of you not familiar with my program, the following should
give you an idea about my philosophy and curriculum.
My philosophy
is based on the latest research concerning how young children
learn. During the years from birth through age eight, young
children develop lifelong attitudes about themselves and learning.
Accordingly, early school experiences should foster continued
growth through the use of curriculum and instructional methods,
which are developmentally, appropriate for the young child.
The development and operation of my early childhood program
illustrates these beliefs. My kindergarten educational program
reflects a balance between adult and child initiated activities.
Age and developmental appropriateness are stressed, as the
child is involved in a variety of learning experiences. Exploration,
experimentation, and discovery are vital to the early childhood
education program and are respected for their value as the
primary means of learning among young children. The development
of language, thinking, social, and motor skills constitutes
the core of the program.
On a personal
note, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two children,
and various pets. I also enjoy reading, exercising, and spending
time with special friends.
