School Info: Meet Our Staff

Music: Mrs. Susanna Judd-Newkirk

Susanna is a veteran teacher, choir director, and performer who recently moved to Washington from California. She is a graduate of California State University at Los Angeles with a masters degree in Progress in Choral Conducting. She began teaching music at All Saints School in 2001.

Thirty plus years of teaching has included many years at the high school level as well as the elementary/middle school level in general music, choral music, handbells, dance, and science. Susanna has directed scores of productions including such musicals as The Sound of Music, The King and I, Fiddler On the Roof, Brigadoon, Bye Bye Birdie, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Little Shop of Horrors. As a choir director, she has guided hundreds of young people to success in choral music through performance and competition.

As a church music director, Susanna has guided many adult choirs (both choral and handbell) through years of liturgical music.

Susanna was the artistic director of the San Fernando Valley Youth Chorus in southern California, an auditioned children’s chorus, which enabled young people to receive a quality music experience outside of the school. This also included extensive performance experience throughout the area.

The cornerstone of Susanna’s educational philosophy centers upon her own experience as a young person, “My most valuable education came from my hours in rehearsals and on stage, where the real lessons about success are learned. The lessons of self-discipline, hard work, and sharing with others are at the core of performance preparation, and encompass the values we wish to pass on to our students. Success, growth, and internal self-worth come from the kind of dedication we share in the performing arts. If I, as a teacher and director, can show my students just a little of this world of the arts, then they will come away being better people, and have wonderful memories of their time in rehearsals and on stage.”
